Hot plate cycle
The hot plate welding technology is based on the direct heating of the parts to be welded through direct contact with the heated non-stick Teflon plate. During the cycle, the surfaces are brought into contact with the heating element and subsequently between each other, with a variable thrust pressure. On contact with the hot plate the plastic material melts, and its under-side softens. This is a very important aspect as during the cooling stage – i.e. while the parts are pressed together against each other – the material is compacted, forming watertight welds with excellent mechanical strength. Hot plate technology is used in the automotive and electrical household appliance sector in the production of tanks. It is used in the automotive sector for headlight assembly. The contact surfaces have to be designed in such a way as to create the weld joints.
