Spot welding

Ultrasonic Spot Welding is used when you have to weld together flat parts without energy directors. Typical
products for this application are sheets, thermoformed parts and extruded parts.
The sonotrode end goes through the upper part and plunges into the lower one. Between the two contact
surfaces of the parts around the sonotrode, the material is warmed up by the vibrations, plasticized and
welded. The plasticized material is driven upwards and produces a rise which will be contained by the particular
sonotrode geometry. Usually a ring will be formed. The opposite site of the lower part remains without marks.
We suggest to fix the parts to be welded with a blank holder.
The thickness of the upper part must not exceed 7 mm.
Spot welding may be carried out with welder presses or with portable hand welders.
You have to provide an adequate cooling system of the sonotrode as this application produces a lot of heat.
